Why was Blqout created?

Blqout was founded by Elise Gitau to fill a gap in the Australian market for black-focused beauty products. Elise’s mission is to empower black girls and women to feel confident, celebrated, and cared for, providing products that are made with them in mind.

Blqout is an Australian brand by a black girl and made for black girls, delivering the beauty essentials you won’t find on the other shelves. When you shop hair, you can access brushes, curl creams and the haircare brands that cater to textured hair. Sunscreens that have no white cast. Bonnets, edge brushes. Everything all in one spot. That’s Blqout.

Growing up as a black girl in Australia comes with its struggles. Social identity, relating to peers, and of course… figuring out where to get your hair done. As someone who’s grown up on stages—from gymnastics to pageantry—I kept running into the same issue: finding beauty products that actually work for black hair and skin. From something as simple as a brush strong enough to pull back my natural hair, to sunscreens that don’t leave a white cast. Even now, years later, there’s still no easy, reliable, and affordable way to get the everyday essentials I need. So I made one.

Essentials for every shade.
